Dr. Sanjay Gupta of CNN is an American neurosurgeon, writer and reporter who has achieved considerable success in all these fields. He is a celebrity who has been offered one of the highest positions attainable by a doctor in America. He has received several awards during his lifetime, including one from the National Press Photographers Association for humanitarianism.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta is the Cable News Network (CNN) chief medical correspondent. Their health section covers parenting, health conditions and fitness. As chief medical correspondent, he is chiefly responsible for the group’s reports on medical news. He has won several Emmy awards for his work with CNN.

He launched Fit Nation as a result of his passion for helping people stay fit and healthy. He is also a practicing neurosurgeon and is an associate in neurosurgery at Grady Memorial Hospital. He is also an assistant neurosurgery professor at Emory University. He has taken controversial positions on a number of issues such as marijuana use by regular citizens versus those with multiple sclerosis, cancer or Alzheimer's disease. He has also been criticized for not revealing that CNN and the producers of Guardasil were in partnership even as he promoted the treatment.

He traveled to Iraq in 2003 to cover health related aspects of the mission there. He reported from charity hospital during Hurricane Katrina and his work there helped the hospital to receive an Emmy Award in 2006. He was offered the position of United States Surgeon General in 2009 by Barack Obama but stepped aside because of concerns about conflicts of interest. Forbes magazine has named him as one of the ten most influential celebrities.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta became a part of the team at CNN in 2001. Between 17 and 39 million gallons of oil were released in this spill. He covered the oil disaster that occurred in the Gulf of Mexico. He has also contributed to Sixty Minutes, the CBS news magazine. He is the author of Cheating Death, Monday Mornings and Chasing Life, all of which have become bestsellers.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta is married to Rebecca Olson, a Family Law attorney. The two of them were wed in a traditional Hindu ceremony in 2004. He asked Rebecca for her hand in marriage by writing her a poem. The couple is active with their alma mater, the University of Michigan. They spend time together supporting their teams in matches.

Lawyer, Rebecca Olson Gupta and her husband, renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Sanjay Gupta have two children together. One daughter is named Sage, the other is called Sky. His parents moved from India and both worked as engineers at Ford Motor Company. His mother was the first female engineer there.
